With such a variety of makeup brands and products out there, it's hard to pick out just one makeup item. If you've just got into makeup, it can be quite daunting to find some good quality products. I've picked out my favourite drugstore makeup items to share with you, whether you're new to makeup, or just looking for some new products.
For face makeup, I wouldn't exact say it's essentials for a full coverage foundation. Of course, you can get light coverage BB creams and CC creams, but they aren't always necessary. If you feel like you need to cover up a few problem areas, I highly suggest the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. This is great for using on spots, or redness. It's creamy yet covers up everything.
For us people who have been blessed with oily skin, I'd recommend using a powder. I've been using the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. Not only does this hide shine, but it also sets any other makeup you may be wearing, such as the concealer. There's a translucent one, as well as one's with colour.
Eye makeup is either a hit or a miss. You might find an eyeshadow which looks stunning in the pan, yet is very chalky and not pigmented. It can either make or break your whole makeup look. A natural eyeshadow palette which is pretty, and inexpensive, is the Barry M Natural Glow Eyeshadow Palette. The colours in this are gorgeous, and can create multiple eye looks. It even comes with a lovely blush shade too.
Something every makeup brands sells is mascara. If I could only wear one makeup item, it would be mascara. It just defines your eyelashes, making them look longer or thicker. I've tried many, some great, and some not so good. One I recommend is the Maybelline Volum Express Colassol Mascara. This makes your eyelashes look great, and the wand is phenomenal.
I know for sure that I absolutely love lip products; lipstick, lipgloss, lipstain, the lot. There's just loads of different formulas, colours, brands and everything in between. For lip balms, I must say the Maybelline Baby Lips. These are a balm and tint in one. I have the shade Pink Punch, and it gives a slight hint of pink. I used to love this at one point, then never bothered much with it but have been loving it lately. It's not extremely moisturising, but it keeps your lips from going dry.
Some days, I feel like wearing lipgloss. I like the Barry M Lip Gloss Wands. Mine is a light pink colour, so looks natural. They're not sticky at all, and give a nice shine. They smell sweet but not sickly. Mine has hints of glitter, but when wearing it, you don't tend to notice it. To be honest, they're great!
Something that hit the blogging world a few years ago, and everyone went crazy, is the Revlon Lip Butters. I actually adore these! I bought one ages ago, but wasn't keen on the shade, so I decided to give them another shot, except, buy a different one. They have great colour pay off, as well as feel hydrating! They're like a lipstick and lipbalm in one. I have the shade lollipop, which is basically the colour of the packaging, but it's a stunning pink/berry colour and looks great with natural eyes.
They are all my drugstore favourites which are ideal for a makeup starter kit. I've tried many items from the drugstore, but these are the ones I like most. This post is a collab with Alana, who will be posting her collab on Wednesday.
What products are in your ideal makeup starter kit?
Oooh can you go back in time and show this post to young Eleanor please? My first venture into makeup was a bright teal dazzle dust and I'd wear just that all the time :')

Aw haha! Sounds like a lot of people who first get into makeup! x
DeleteGreat choices! We can't get BarryM here in the states but I'm definitely thinking about checking eBay for the Natural Glow palette because it looks super cute. xo
ReplyDeleteAw thanks! That's annoying! Yeah definitely eBay or Amazon! x
DeleteGreat recommendations! Too bad I can't get a lot of them and if I can certainly not for cheap! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks! Aw are they not easy access to you? x
DeleteThe Revlon Lip Butters are so easy to apply and natural-looking - definitely a must have for beginners :) the Barry M palettes are really nice and affordable too xx
ReplyDeleteMagpie Jasmine
I agree, they're so effortless to apply! I adore the Barry M palette - I've been using it more lately to create a natural eye look xx
DeleteI really need to try the revlon lip butters! Everyone raves about how good they are. I always pass them in Boots but stop myself buying them as I already have so many lip products! x

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! x
DeleteSuch a good post idea! The natural glow palette looks gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! It is! x
DeleteI've actually seen a lot of youtubers recommend Rimmel's stay matte as well. Good Choice! My ideal kit would definitly include a good bb cream, concealer, bronzer, highlighter, blush, mascara, and a brow pencil! Like, those are each a total must
ReplyDeleteIt's fab! I've been into using bronzer more! x
DeleteI've used the stay matte powder and it worked really well on me. I've been more into researching ingredients so I had to say bye to a lot of my drugstore products, but even I can say that that palette is beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI adore the colours in it! x
DeleteI'm a total brand snob when it comes to most things including makeup. It's good to know what some of the decent products are just in case I need them.
ReplyDeleteA lot of people prefer high end makeup, but some drugstore makeup is just as good x
DeleteOhh I want that eyeshadow pallet!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, isn't it? x
DeleteI love the Revlon Lip Butters! I feel like people don't talk about them nearly as much anymore, which is a shame since they're amazing. They're definitely my go-to lipsticks.
ReplyDeleteYeah I agree, the hype has quietened down! They are still lovely though x
DeleteI love the Maybelline FitMe Concealer.
ReplyDeleteSame! x
DeleteGreat starter kit! I love that eyeshadow palette - very pretty!

Isn't it just gorgeous? x
DeleteOh how I wish i knew how to do my makeup. I go with a basic eye liner and mascara. I always think eye shadow makes my eyes look sunken in. oh and my eye lids get oily and it all collects in the creases. Got anything to prevent that?
ReplyDeleteFor oily eye lids, have you ever invested into a primer? Some mornings I suffer from oily eye lids, and cream eyeshadows are amazing! Maybelline do some great ones called the colour tattoos. They're basically just creamy eyeshadows, which are very pigmented and have great staying power! x
DeleteI really wish I was good with makeup. I am 20 & still don't wear make up.. I guess I will start with your basics and work my way through those! Thanks so much for this insight! ❤️
ReplyDeleteHope you find some good products soon! Makeup is fun to use and wear, it's just like art - start with a blank canvas and add on some colour! x
DeleteI love Baby Lips!! I will also check out that eye palette! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI've been using it more lately! It's such a pretty palette! x
Deletei LOVE Maybelline! & that eye shadow palette looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteSuch an affordable brand, yet also amazing! x
DeleteThese are great suggestions! I'm going to be traveling to Europe next month and I can't wait to raid the beauty aisles! ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful time lovely! And make sure to pick up some beauty products - I'm sure you will! x
DeleteLove your suggestions! I really like the baby lips chapstick and I love Revlon products!
ReplyDeleteAw I'm glad! Revlon lip product are fab! x
Deleteawe wish I wore lipstick.. I just not a huge fan and lately the baby lips have been making my lips more dry than usual :( so it's time to find something new I suppose... great starter kit though.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried light lip colours? That might encourage you to wear lipstick! Yeah the baby lips can do that sometimes - annoying! Apparently the maybelline Dr rescue baby lips are better than the original! x
DeleteThank you! I haven't looked around your blog yet, but would you be able to explain what each type of makeup does and give a tutorial to beginners? I feel so bad that I'm a grown woman and still can't do my own makeup, so I just look like blah me all the time haha.
ReplyDeleteYeah I can go into depth with products if you wish! I'm totally not wanting to sound patronizing, but feel free to either ask me in the comments about any products you're curious to, or tweet me : @Jasmine123_123 x
DeleteAw these products are awesome! Great collab!

DeleteWhat a great starter set. Personally I'm a Mary Kay gal (sell it and use it). I always start with cleanser, moisturizer and foundation then move to a lipgloss, mascara and blush for a natural "day" look. This is a great starter set too :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! Sounds nice and natural, as well as easy! x
