Makeup setting sprays have recently came by like a storm to the beauty world, mainly because everyone was wanting to achieve that "dewy" makeup look. I bought one because I just wanted to set my makeup, as the name of the product would suggest. When I was flicking through an Avon brochure ages ago, I managed to find a setting spray. It was fairly new to the book so was a bargain price of £3.50. How could a makeup addict resist?
The Avon Make-up Setting Spray comes in a black bottle, which is plastic and transparent so you can see just how much product you have remaining. Bearing in mind I only paid £3.50, I believe the packaging looks sleek and almost professional. It comes with a cap over the pump to prevent any loss of product.
So, how exactly does it work? I like to spray it after I've applied my face makeup (ie primer, foundation, concealer, powder etc). By spraying it on top of my makeup, it will remove any excess powder which will reduce your chances of looking cakey. With it removing any excess powder, it's more likely that the spray will actually be able to reach your makeup and set it. In doing so, you will be able to achieve that dewy look, and that all depends on how much you use. I usually do three sprays down my face and it distributes itself evenly.
The formula isn't sticky or drying, and there isn't a distinct scent - I have been using this for a while and haven't happened to pick up on any scent. It dries almost instantly so no waiting required. According to the avon website, it's also enriched with vitamins A, C and E. For 125ml, it now retails for only £6.
Will you be trying this out? What are some of your favourite setting sprays?

Well written post Jas! My favourite setting spray is the MAC fix+ and I'm looking to get some of the UD ones soon:) thanks for sharing, this is a great dupe xx

Thanks so much Kirsty! I've been really interested to the UD ones although, have heard many mixed reviews! xx
DeleteOooh, I've loving Avon makeup recently, I'll have to keep an eye out for this when the next brochure comes in! I've been loving the Makeup Revolution setting spray. It smells a bit like marzipan, which I love haha.

They have some good products! x
DeleteThis looks great. I use the Makeup Revolution setting spray which I think is only about £5. I haven't used anything from AVON in ages, but it seems they've stepped up their game x
ReplyDeleteAbi | abistreetx
I'm interested to the MUR sprays! Yes I feel Avon is better nowadays than before x
DeleteOoooh, I wish Avon was easier to get my hands on in the US! I personally use Mac Fix+ or the Pixi Glow Mist (great for dry skin and a dewy finish, though it doesn't "set" the way the other sprays do). I've also heard wonderful things about the L'Oreal Infallible Setting Spray!
ReplyDeleteThe Mac one sounds great! Yes I've been reading loads of reviews on the L'Oreal one! x
DeleteIt sounds great - I haven't tried anything from Avon for ages x
ReplyDeleteHeather | Of Beauty & Nothingness
Avon is one of those brands I will go back to after a while! x
DeleteYou got this for such a good price! I really like the L'oreal fixing mist at the minute! Universal tried UD De-Slick too but wasn't impressed!

Call me the bargain hunter hah! The L'Oreal one is honestly everywhere and I feel I'm missing out! x

DeleteNice! That's so affordable! My favourite is the Urban Decay All Nighter but I'm trying out L'Oreal's right now. It's pretty pricey too though. :\
ReplyDeleteSure is! I have been seeing the L'Oreal one everywhere so I think I should give it a shot next! x
DeleteI've always liked Avon makeup but I didn't even know they did a setting spray! I'll have to try this out some time

ReplyDeleteAngie | Chocolate & Lipstick | Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle Blog
Oh really? This isn't drying at all x
DeleteDoes this make your makeup last any longer? I've never found anything better than the UD All Nighter spray x

It'd say a little bit longer! x
DeleteI use this setting spray too! I think it's super good for the price especially when it's on offer! x

As do I! Thank you! x
DeleteI have very dry skin so I have never tried a setting spray and I know this is weird but I hate spraying things in my face. Nevertheless, I am very curious about it. For summer and humid weather, I would imagine it makes a big difference
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't necessarily say setting sprays are drying, especially this one x
DeleteI normally use hairspray, but it is always so sticky- as you can imagine haha! For £3.50 you cant really argue...off to purchase some! <3 xxx
ReplyDeletewww.colourmekaty.com
Oh gosh I heard that isn't good for your pores! x
DeleteSounds like I need to try this out along with Elf version before buying the full size Loreal makeup setter! Great review!
ReplyDeleteUrsula
www.blueridgebeautyblogger.com
Wish I could get elf here! The L'Oreal one sounds great. Thanks Ursula! x
DeleteI've used so many setting sprays Urban Decay, MAC, drugstore, etc. but sometimes they can be so drying! This one sounds so hydrating and almost like skincare so I'm intrigued :) The one I'm using right now is from a K beauty brand and it's infused with vitamins similar to this but it's on the pricer side, so I wonder if it would be a good dupe. Great find!
ReplyDeleteNever thought that this one is dry! Maybe it is a dupe! x
DeleteOnce I saw the picture I was like what?!?! Avon has a setting spray that's definitely a good look. I like the fact that it's vitamin enriched, I'll have to check it out on my next order.
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, and it's a good spray for the price! x
DeleteLooks great. Great review. I'd love to try it because I like to set my makeup :)

This would be a great product to try to get back into Avon! x
DeleteBack in the 80's we used hair spray. lol not sure it had any of the vitamins this Avon product contains.

DeleteI was just talking about this with a friend! Awesome! I can't wait to try it out!

DeleteI haven't tried Avon in sooo long, I used to buy everything from there at one point. I really need to replace my Fix+ though, I feel like I've lost an arm without it. Definitely need a more budget friendly one like this though x
ReplyDeleteTamz | http://www.throughneweyesx.com/
I go through phases where I buy a lot or don't at all! The fix+ is probably quite pricey to keep repurchasing x
DeleteThis sounds too good to be true!! I never think to try Avon XX
ReplyDeleteIt's the dark horse! x
DeleteI've never used a setting spray before, but I've heard incredible things about them! I've heard that Urban Decay has a great one as well!
ReplyDeleteThey are good to have! Never tried the UD ones x
DeleteThat sounds great, can't believe it's only £6! Definitely worth trying out for that price and I like the fact that it dries almost instantly and isn't stick, I hate that! Thanks for sharing your find lovely :) x

Haha it smells lovely! x
DeleteI want to build a collection of drug store setting sprays, I love the NYX matte finish one as someone who's not all that into the dewy skin! I just want my makeup to last, like you. I can never really tell if they make a huge difference tbh, I kinda just spray it for the idea. Like, it helps to last a little longer, especially with a primer, but I'm never sure if that's the spray working or the primer! I have dry skin so staying isn't too much of an issue with my makeup!
ReplyDeleteAmanda Jayne | beauty, style, travel, life
I've never heard of that NYX one but I like the sounds of it! Yeah I get you x

DeleteI feel that Avon is a seriously underrated beauty brand. I've had so many products from them recently. I really want to try this next. I've been using the NYX finishing powder which is really long lasting & sets my makeup with a lovely matte finish.
ReplyDeleteRoxie | The Beautiful Bluebird
I have tried many products from Avon and I actually feel that they are really good for the price! x
DeleteI always forget about Avon as a make up brand should really try some more things from them! this looks fab! Right now I am using the Make Up Revolution one, which I am really liking... wasnt expensive either which is always a bonus! Fab post, and love your blog :)
ReplyDeletehttp://www.makeerinover.co.uk
I think I forget about Avon because it doesn't have a stall in boots or Superdrug! Yes I've heard about that one, might try it! Thanks so much x
DeleteThis looks fab for the price! I've tried both the Urban Decay De-slick and the Makeup Revolution ones and liked them both, but I've seen some that would literally spray blobs of powder onto your face if you don't shake them properly!
ReplyDeleteKirstie | Behind The Scent
I really want to try the MUR one as I have heard some good reviews on it! Yes haha that is the only problem! x
DeleteI've only ever used Mac fix+ a few times but I wasn't a fan. I think it made my skin a little too dewy because I've already got oily skin. May try this one out though because I really want to be able to use a setting spray!
ReplyDeletewww.saarasofia.com
That is my only problem which I need to try avoid as I also have oily skin! x
DeleteOooh the price definitely sounds amazing! I'm not the biggest setting spray user, but I don't know why. I guess I just forget about it. I own the Urban Decay De-Slick setting spray and it's so good for oily skintypes <3

It's fate, you must try it now! x
DeleteWhen I was in my early teens, Avon was actually the first beauty brand I tried! It's a good job really because I thankfully avoided the Maybelline DMM hahah and used the Avon mattifying foundation instead. I haven't tried Avon makeup in quite a while but this setting spray sounds like such a bargain, even cheaper than the NYX one which I love!

ReplyDeleteFor the price, yes, it truly is amazing! x
DeleteOh wow, I really want to try this! I didn't even know this was a thing!
ReplyDeleteOnce my friends told me that hairspray made your make up stay on, so when I was drunk I sprayed loads on and stuck my eyes together... this seems like a much better alternate!
www.melberyy.com xxx
Oh apparently hairspray is really bad for your pores as it clogs them up - stick with makeup setting sprays! x
