Being blessed with oily skin makes base makeup tricky. I want to look flawless yet don't want to appear cakey nor shiny. Do I apply more powder to my nose and risk it being mega cakey so that the shine doesn't come through? Sigh, struggles of having oily skin, eh. I have tried numerous primers, some which help to keep my shine to a minimum for a short period of time but nothing that works right through the day. I have tried foundations which look perfect in the morning but crack around my nose by lunchtime. I have heard varying responses to the Smashbox Primer Water, mainly good, but I wasn't sure if the £20 price tag was worth it. Then, when I was in Primark, something caught my eye.
Primark's beauty range has really upped it's game lately. I've been buying a few things, and couldn't help but buy their primer water for the small price of £2 - a fraction of the price of the Smashbox one. Whilst buying, my initial thoughts were if it works, great! But if it doesn't, then I've only spent £2 as opposed to £20. Of course, my inner beauty blogger was shouting at me to "hurry up and put it to the test".. oops.
Oh my days, I can't even explain my love for it. I didn't really know what to expect for £2 but this little bottle has really taken me by surprise. I wouldn't say that there is any overpowering scent, if any at all. I apply my moisturiser, then roughly 3-4 sprays of this onto my face and my skin is prepped and ready for my foundation. Whenever I use this, I find that my base makeup looks air-brushed and flawless - perhaps it's due to the foundation, but I'm more lenient to believing that it's this primer. What I love most is that you don't end up with greasy fingers from applying the primer on to your face, and my skin actually absorbs this pretty quickly. Regardless, I always powder my face, paying particular attention to my t-zone, and I have found my foundation stays in tack for a good 4-5 hours. No complaints there then, eh?
For £2, I would 100% repuchase this because put it this way, it's an amazing bargain. As I have oily skin, I can only judge the water on oily skin types, however, I do feel that it possibly would work with dry/combination skin types also as it does feel quite hydrating.
So, when are you next going to Primark to pick up a primer water?
Ooooh! This sounds great! I think I may have to invest in one!

Can't say no to that price! x
DeletePrimark are so on point with their product releases ATM! I was actually looking at the Nip & Fab one but I might save the extra fiver and give this a try instead. x

Their beaut range is seriously winning! x
DeleteNice choice! May be I must try :)
ReplyDeleteShould do! x
DeleteI used to use the Smashbox one but I now use the Freedom Pro one which is £5 I think and I get it from Superdrug. I need to try this Primark one!

Oh I didn't realise Freedom had one! x
DeleteI've seen so many people recommending primer waters but I just don't understand how it settles into the skin versus a regular primer which you rub in. Currently I'm using the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer and I love it - it really covers up all my pores and smooths out my skin ready for foundation :)

Aha that's a very valid point actually! Guess your skin must just absorb it! x
DeleteWhat a steal, can't really complain when you're only paying that much for it!

Oh maybe this is the one for you then! Thank you! x
DeleteI always see blog posts, and YouTube videos where people would post something like "makeup routine under $20" thinking how amazing. It's extremely rare even at drug store products to find something relatively "cheap" I would love to find a 2 dollar primer in Australia !
ReplyDeletewww.thelushstyles.com
Haha! Ah yes I've heard that makeup prices are sky high in Aus, that sucks! x
DeleteThis seems like such a great alternative. I've been through two of the smashbox primer waters so I'll try this next time instead of spending a fortune on water haha!! Xx
ReplyDeletewww.kirstyjennifer.com
You should try this one and see how it lives up to the Smashbox one! xx
DeleteThis sounds absolutely amazing dupe for the smashbox one, I almost brought it when I saw it myself the other day! X
ReplyDeleteAh gal you should have! x
DeleteOh the inner blogger always rears her head when she see's something she likes. It's silencing it that'a the problem haha.
ReplyDeletePrimark are killing it right now. I definitely need to pop in and pick one of these up.

DeleteGlad that you found an affordable dupe primer water for Smashbox Primer...I want to experiment with rosewater since that is the old school waters that women still use!

DeleteThis sounds so interesting, I always wonder how it would go for my dry skin though, I always like something a bit thicker and more hydrating, but I want to try them out.
ReplyDeleteLaura || www.thelifeoflaura.com.au xx
I reckon it would work quite well still, perhaps just use more of it? x
DeleteThat is bargain, something I must try! I have combination skin and this would be a great product review for others with my kind of skin. It's great to know its just as good. Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bargain hunter, trust me haha! x
DeleteThis sounds amazing, I can't believe it's only £2, I'll definitely have to give it a try this summer because my skin will be so bad by then!

AH I'm usually late onto the bandwagon don't worry! That's why blogs are fab hehe! x
DeleteWill pick this up when I go to Primark next time I have the same struggles with Primer I just haven't found the perfect one. There's a blogger that's been posting a lot about Primark makeup and I've noticed they've improved it a lot. Can't wait to look at a few things on my next visit! Great post!
ReplyDeleteTaslyn| www.hiddenbeau-t.co.uk
Primark have really been upping their game, so many products I want to try! Thank you! x
DeleteOh my goodness this is really interesting! I've never actually used primer water but I'm also oily skinned! I've been using NYX as a dupe but been too scared to try the primary makeup range not sure how it would sit with my skin! After reading this, I feel like I must try it for myself! X
ReplyDeleteVictoria | VictoriaaHelenn
I reckon it'd be a good option to try! As you said, you have oily skin like myself so I would say that it's worth a shot! x
DeleteWow! What a great post! I actually have never heard of Primer water before. I do love Younique's Primer for how it gives you that nice flat base to start with for your daily makeup! Thanks so much for sharing!
